Dental Clinic vs Hospital: Which Is Better for Your Teeth?

Not sure whether to see a dental clinic or a hospital dentist in Indonesia? Learn when each is the better choice for your teeth, from injuries to braces.

Dental clinic vs hospital: comparing where to get dental care

Licensed, trustworthy dental clinics have opened in many of Indonesia's big cities. So what is the difference between having your teeth and mouth checked by a dentist who works at a hospital and visiting a dental clinic? Where should you go for dental care, a hospital or a dental clinic?

The right choice depends on your situation: whether you have a severe toothache, whether it needs immediate treatment, and whether you need a full range of medical equipment.

When to Go to a Hospital

If an accident has broken your jaw or teeth and damaged other parts of your mouth so that you need surgery, a hospital is the best place to treat and heal your teeth and mouth.

You can also see a hospital dentist for minor dental problems such as swollen gums or cavities.

When to Go to a Dental Clinic

If you can't see a hospital dentist in the morning or afternoon, a dental clinic is a good alternative. Hospital dental departments usually close in the late afternoon, while dental clinics are typically open into the evening, and some don't open until the afternoon.

A dental clinic is also the better choice than a dentist at a general hospital if you want braces, repair for a broken tooth, or teeth whitening.

Dentists at hospitals are usually general dentists, not orthopedic specialists, whereas dentists at dental clinics and those who run their own practice are different. Dentists who work at a dental clinic or run their own practice are usually orthopedic or surgical specialists.

So if you need specialized care for your teeth, go to a dental clinic rather than a hospital.
