  • First time licensees will have until their second continuation cycle to comply, then every 2 years thereafter.
  • Agents must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years including 3 hours of Ethics.



  • At least 18 hours must be in the lines of insurance in which the Agent is licensed. The remaining balance of credits can be in Life & Health or Property/Casualty categories. A dual license, may be completed in either LH or P/C approved courses, plus (3) hours of Ethics.
  • Agents who sell, solicit or negotiate Annuity Products are required to complete a one time, 4 hour course in Annuity Training.
  • Agents who wish to sell, solicit, or negotiate Long Term Care Insurance must complete a one-time LTC training required shall be no less than 16 hours, 8 hours of which shall be specific to the Long Term Care Partnerships in a classroom setting. The ongoing training required by this section shall be no less than 5 hours in a classroom for each continuing education cycle.
  • All resident producers engaged in the sale, consultation or adjustment of claims made policies must complete a 2 hours course on claims-made policies equivalent program.
  • 3 Hours of Flood required by FEMA. (1 time requirement)


Compliance Date

  • Every Agent must complete their Continuing Education requirements every 2 years by the end of the Agents birth month. (Agents born in odd years are due every odd year. Agents born in even years are due every even year.)


Excess Hours

  • Excess of 12 hours may be carried over to the next compliance period only if it is completed in the final 120 days of the 24 month license continuation cycle. Carry-over credits do not apply to first-time licenses.


Course Repetition

  • Courses may not be taken once in a 2 year period upon course completion.


Course Presentation

  • Continuing education courses may be either self-study or classroom



  • If the course taken is Self-Study, the Agent must pass a Monitored examination.
  • Monitor: A disinterested third party who is neither the immediate supervisor nor the employee of the producer.
  • If the course taken is a classroom course, there is no examination.
