Hour

  • As of January 1, 2010 - Every licensed Insurance Producer must complete 24 credits regardless of the lines of authority by the last day of the Insurance Producer’s birth month.
  • Any Producer who (under the old law) was due 1/31/2010, will now be due to complete their Continuing Education by the last day of their birth month.
  • Present Requirement - Agents must complete 12 hours per year, total reporting requirements is 24 hours for the 2 year reporting period governed by Odd & Even years depending on the last Initial of the Agents last name by January 31st.

Requirements

  • 3 hours Ethics
  • All North Dakota Property licensed resident insurance producers who sell Federal Flood insurance policies under the NFIP must complete a one-time 3 credit course. When you complete the Flood course with CEIS you will receive 12 hours of Continuing Education and satisfy your FEMA requirements.
  • LTC Partnership Training Requirement: Producers, who sell, solicit or negotiate long-term care insurance policies for North Dakota’s LTC Partnership program must complete a one-time 8-hour training program before July 1, 2008. After that date, ongoing training must be completed every 24 months. You will receive 8 hours of Continuing Education Credit and satisfy your insurance carrier.
  • 3 hours of Flood required by FEMA. (1 time requirement)

Compliance Date

  • Last names starting with A-K must complete there CE by 1/31 of odd numbered years.
  • Last names starting with L-Z must complete their CE by 1/31 of even numbered years.

Excess Hours

  • A maximum of 12 hours may be carried over the next biennial reporting period.

Course Repetition

  • Courses may not be taken more than once in each compliance reporting period.

Course Presentation

  • All Continuing Education course hours may be completed in either self-study or classroom.

Examination

  • Self-study courses require you to pass a NON Monitored exam.
  • If the course taken is a classroom there is no examination.

As of January 2010, North Dakota Insurance Department will be using State Based Systems to report credit hours on line

        A fee of $1.00 per credit hour will be charged.
