Hours
  • Every Agent must complete 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
Requirements
  • Agents must complete 3 hours of Ethics.
  • All Maine licensed resident insurance producers who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.
  • An individual may not sell, solicit or negotiate LTC insurance unless the individual is licensed as an insurance producer for life or health insurance and completes a 8 hourĂ‚ one-time training course and a 4 hour ongoing training course every 24 months thereafter in order to continue to sell LTC policies. The new law contains a transition provision for licensed producer's already actively selling, soliciting or negotiatingĂ‚ LTC insurance as of the effective date of the statute. They will have until 07/01/2008 to complete the one-time training course, such producers may continue to sell, solicit or negotiate LTC insurance until 01/07/2008, but must complete the on-time course in order to continue those activities thereafter. Producers who were not already actively engages in those LTC activities as of 07/01/2008 must complete the one-time training course before they may legally begin such activities.
Compliance Date
  • The agents due date is determined by there birth month and the year they were born. (Example: if they were born in January 1965, they need there continuing education done by the end of January of odd years 2007, 2009, 2011 etc.) (If there were born in an even year they need there CE done by the end of there birth month in even years.)
Excess Hours
  • Carryover hours are not permitted
Course Repetition
  • No credit may be earned for repeating a course previously taken during the same biennium.

Course Presentation

  • Continuing education courses may be either self-study or classroom.
Examination
  • If the course taken is self-study, the Agent must pass a non-monitored examination.
  • If the course taken is classroom there is no examination.
