Hours
  • Agents must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years including 3 credit hours in Ethics.
Requirements
  • Resident Adjuster, Public Adjuster and Fraternal Producers: Must complete 12 hours of Continuing Education including 3 credit hours of Ethics every 2 years.
  • Adjusters licensed solely for Surety and or Marine and Transportation are exempt from Continuing Education. Non-Resident Adjusters and Public Adjusters are exempt from Continuing Education.
  • Long Term Care Insurance Requirement: Resident Producers holding a Health License and who solicit Long Term Care policies must complete at least three (3) hours of training in Delaware Long Term Care Insurance that consists of product knowledge, laws, rules, rules and regulations as part of the biennium requirement plus twenty-one (21) general credit requirements. The Delaware Long Term Care Insurance course may be repeated again for the Agent’s next biennium period. This would take care of the on going refresher course for Resident Producers holding a Health License.
  • Flood Insurance Requirement: Any Agent who is authorized to write Homeowners or Personal Lines Coverage shall be required to complete (2) credit hour continuing education course related to Flood Insurance. The National Flood Insurance Program is part of the 21 general credit hours necessary to maintain a Delaware license.
Compliance Date
  • Every Agent must complete their Continuing Education every 2 years by February 28 of (2009) the odd-numbered years.
Excess Hours
  • A maximum of 5 credit hours may be carried over to the next biennium compliance period.
  • Carry over hours do not apply to the required course Ethics. Excess credits of the mandatory requirements may be applied to the licensee’s general course requirements.
Course Repetition
  • Courses may not be repeated within the same Compliance period.

Course Presentation

  • Continuing Education courses may be either self-study or classroom.
Examination
  • If the course taken is self-study the Agent must pass a non-monitored Open Book Examination.
  • If the courses taken is a classroom courses there is no examination.
Exempt From Continuing Education
  • Limited Lines Producers writing consumer credit as defined in Title, crop/hail, surety and car rental insurance.
  • An Individual continuously licensed for (25) years or longer prior to the start of a biennium reporting period or who holds a recognized professional designation shall receive an Automatic credit of (12) credits in each biennium.
