Hours
  • 24 credit hours are required every 2 years for newly licensed Agents, and 3 credit hours in Laws/Reg/Ethics are included within the 24 credits.
Requirements
  • 24 credit requirement: Producers must complete 24 credit hours. Of the 24 credit hours, at least 6 hours in each major line held, at least 3 hours in Laws/Reg/Ethics and the balance in any type or combination.
  • All Producers licensed with Property/Casualty or Personal Lines authority are required to complete a one-time 3 credit course on Federal Flood requirements. This Flood course is a separate requirement - in addition to other Property & Casualty credits that are required.
  • Two major line categories are: Property/Casualty, Life, Accident and Health or
    Personal Lines.
  • Flood Requirement: Flood Insurance Requirement for Producers with Property/Casualty or Personal Lines Authority must complete 3 hours in Federal Flood requirements. This is a one-time requirement.
  • Long Term Care Requirement: A Producer who solicits or sells LTC policies have to complete a one time 7 hour Connecticut Long Term Care Insurance Partnership Plan as part of there 24 hours required. Connecticut does not require an on going refresher course for Agents who sell, solicit, or negotiate Long Term Care.
Compliance Date
  • Producers must complete their Continuing Education by their license expiration date. The Continuing Education should be completed within 60 days before your birth date to receive your renewed license in a timely manner.
Excess Hours
  • No. Excess credit hours accumulated during the current license period may not be carried forward to the next license period.
Course Repetition
  • None. If a course is duplicated during a compliance period, credit from that course will only be awarded once towards your CE requirement.

Course Presentation

  • Continuing education courses may be either self-study or classroom.
Examination
  • If the course taken is self-study, the Agent must pass a Monitored examination. Monitor is a disinterested third party who is not the immediate supervisor nor the employee of the producer.
    If the course taken is a classroom course, there is no examination.
  • State reporting fee of $3.75 per course on-line to Sircon
