Hours
  • First time licensees will not have to comply until their second continuation of being licensed, and then every two years.
  • Agents must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years including 3 hours of Ethics.
Requirements
  • At least 18 hours must be in the lines of insurance in which the Agent is licensed. The remaining balance of credits can be in Life & Health or Property/Casualty categories. A dual license, CE must be completed in either LH or P/C approved courses, plus (3) hours of Ethics.
  • Agents who are licensed for Accident and Health or Sickness or Life Insurance, who wish to sell, solicit, or negotiate Long Term Care Insurance must complete a one time training no less than 16 credit hours- 8 credit hours shall consist of specific to Long Term Care Partnership. The Long Term Care Insurance requirement must be completed by January 1, 2009.
  • A refresher course for Agents licensed for Accident and Health or Sickness of Life Insurance, who continue to sell, solicit, or negotiate Long Term Care must complete no less than a 5 credit hour refresher course by the end of the Agent’s next 2 year compliance period. The course must be completed in a classroom setting.
Compliance Date
  • Every Agent must complete their Continuing Education requirements every 2 years by the end of the Agents birth month.
Excess Hours
  • Excess of 12 hours may be carried over to the next compliance period only if it is completed in the final 120 days of the 24 month license continuation cycle.
Course Repetition
  • Courses may not be taken once in a 2 year period upon course completion.

Course Presentation

  • Continuing education courses may be either self-study or classroom
Examination
  • If the course taken is Self-Study, the Agent must pass a Monitored examination.
  • Monitor: A disinterested third party who is neither the immediate supervisor nor the employee of the producer.)
  • If the course taken is a classroom course, there is no examination.
