- New Licensees must complete 25 hours of continuing education during each of the first (4) 12-month period.
- Agents licensed more than 4 years must complete 30 hours every 2 years.
- Bail Agents must complete 6 hours every year in classroom courses only.

- Courses must be approved for the lines of insurance for which the Agent is licensed.
- Agents that sell Long-Term Care Insurance must complete 8 hours specifically designated LTC training course once during each two-year license term.
- Agents that sell Annuities must complete 4 hour specifically in Annuities every 2 years.
- Agents that sell California Partnership for Long-Term Care products must complete 8 hours of specific Partnership Long-Term Care courses and 8 hours of California Approved Long-Term Care courses before soliciting. Thereafter, 8 hours in each type of Long-Term Care courses must be completed every 2 years unless the license was issued after 1/1/92, then the Agent must complete 8 hours of California Approved Long-Term Care each year for the first 4 years, and 8 hours in Partnership Long-Term Care every 6 years.
- Agents who wish to sell the Combined Group Health and Workers Compensation Plan, (24-Hour Coverage) must complete a specific California Approved 4 hour’s course before soliciting.
- All California licensed Fire/Casualty Broker-Agents and Personal Lines Broker-Agents who sell federal flood insurance policies shall be required to complete a one time 3 hour requirement on flood insurance.

- Every Agent must complete their continuing education requirements before their license is renewed. The renewal date is the last day of the license issuance month, every 2 years.
- The Department suggests that you complete your required continuing education hours at least 60 days prior to the expiration date.

- If the Agent is licensed less than 4 years, a maximum of 25 hours maybe carried over to the next 12 month period.
- If the Agent is licensed 4 years or more a maximum of 30 hours earned in the second half of a 2 year compliance period may be carried over to the next compliance period.

- Courses may not be taken more than once in a 2 year period.

- Continuing education courses may be either self-study or classroom
- Bail courses must be in the classroom.

- If the course taken is self-study, the agent must pass a non-monitored examination.
- If the course taken is self-study and used to meet the Group Health and Workers Compensation (24 hour coverage) requirement, the examination must be monitored by a disinterested third party.
- If the course taken is a classroom course, there is no examination.
